Castor Oil Really Does Work

So, Friday I was pretty tired of being pregnant. Pete and I had been out shopping all day. So, I was really tired and was having a lot of contractions because of all of the walking. So, I thought...maybe this babies ready to come out. So, I made Pete take me to buy Castor Oil. I thought I'd just help the baby along a little. I took 1 tablespoon with 8 ounces of orange juice. It didn't taste as bad as I thought it would. I heard it makes you have the runs and makes you throw up. Well, that never happened. I took it at 10:45 PM. When I went to bed at midnight I still didn't feel any effects. So, I went to bed. I slept out on the living room couch by myself (my new ritual) because I sleep so much better there now that I'm so big. At 2:15 AM I awoke to the most painful feeling I've ever had in my whole life. My back was hurting SOOOO bad and my belly was SOOOO tight. I was induced with Bryson so I didn't really know what contractions felt like (I had the epidural before I felt anything before). But, I figured this must be what they feel like. So, I managed (with much pain) to get off the couch and walk into the bedroom where Bryson and Pete slept. All I could think to do was punch Pete in the leg. It took about 5 punches before he woke up. I said, "I think we need to go to the hospital. I'm pretty sure I'm in labor." He was all groggy and mean. He was getting mad at me for telling him to hurry. It took him a while to get into action. Finally he did. He grabbed my packed bag, bundled up Bryson, and then we headed for the door. We live about 20 minutes from the hospital now. So, I was in pain for quite a long time. It was the longest ride of my life. I was having contractions like 2 minutes apart. Let's just say....Pete ran a few red lights. When we got to the hospital they took me straight into a room. As soon as they realized that I was only 35 weeks they called my doctor and asked him what they should do. I didn't realize I was only 35 weeks. I thought I was 37 weeks for some reason. Oh, by the way, I never told them I took castor oil. I was afraid they would get mad at me. The doctor told the nurse to stop the contractions because it was too early for me to deliver. So, she gave me a shot. It didn't stop them so she gave me another shot. That one didn't work either so she gave me one more (she was only allowed to give me 3 total). After the third one it started working. If it hadn't, they would have had to deliver the baby. So, that was good. I didn't want to deliver an unhealthy baby. The nurse called the doctor and told him they had stopped. So, they said I was free to go home. We got home and back in bed around 6 AM. It was a crazy little adventure. I can't believe the castor oil actually worked. Too bad I didn't take in a week and a half later, they would have delived me then. Bummer. That would have been awesome. I'm SO done being pregnant.
oh my heck kaylea!!!!! you are so wild please dont do that again call me i will come rub your belly when you hurt or something. glad everything turned out well. coupon for free foot rub :p
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you did that! Just hang in there, you're almost done!!
ReplyDeletedork- I thought you were going to say that you had the baby. anywho, it really works huh? Let me know if you need anything. have fun being pregnant a little while longer. Who is his ginger person?
ReplyDeleteoh man. hang on girlie. :)
ReplyDeleteI was like, "She had her baby and didn't even call me????!!!" That sucks that you went through all that pain for nothing! Give it a few more weeks then try again :) And let me know! What hospital are you delivering at?
ReplyDeleteOhhh Kaylea....what a NIGHT...you poor thing! That is so funny that your hubby was grumpy...men, they just don't understand the pain. Hang in there girl!
ReplyDeleteholy cow Kaylea you're so lucky. Castor oil makes the baby pass meconium. Which as you know is VERY DANGEROUS to the baby's health. Seriously, don't do that again!!
ReplyDelete(and I know this because I tried doing the same thing when I was pregnant with Thomas only I admitted it to my dr and everyone about flipped out.) So then I did my own research, and yep, castor oil is a HUGE no-no for pregnant people.
Wow- that's quite the story! I hear it works, but only if you were all ready for labor... so don't feel bad- this is a good thing though- it means labor will be easier for you!
ReplyDeleteMy mom made me a castor oil root beer float...it didn't do a darn thing and I couldn't drink root beer or eat root beer floats for A LONG TIME!! Of course we used the whole bottle though...YUCK!
