The Whole Experience
Here's how the whole labor played out. I went in on Monday night around 5. They checked me and said my cervix wasn't soft enough. So, they put this gel inside me and it had to sit for six hours. It was a long six hours but it went by fast because Pete and I sat and watched Desperate Housewives on our portable DVD player. They gel made me have contractions. So, they gave me this pain medication. It was crazy stuff. I felt like I was on drugs. My best friend Hilarie came to hang out at the hospital like 10 minutes after they gave it to me. She said I was acting and saying crazy stuff. So, she didn't stay long. After she left the hospital she went to my parents house to sleep because she lives kind of far away and didn't want to miss it. Around 12:45 AM they started the putossin (sp?). I was dilated to a 3. Then, at 1:30 AM I got the epidural because my back was already killing me from all the contractions from the gel. Then, I just layed there all night waiting. I couldn't really get any sleep. I was too anxious. Pete slept on a mattress on the floor. He was snooring so I know he got a good nights sleep. Hilarie came back around 7 AM and we just sat and talked. I was dilated to a 5 at 8:00 AM. I kept telling them all night long that they needed to pop my water or nothing was going to happen. But they didn't listen. Finally at 8:50 my doctor stopped in on his way to work and popped my water. After they popped my water everything was fast after, just like I told them it would. I went to a 7 really fast. Then, I started feeling the baby moving down. With every contraction his head scooted down a little more all by it's self. It was the craziest thing. My body was doing all the work by it's self. I kept telling the nurse it was coming. She didn't really believe me. She finally checked and was surprised that he really was almost out. She ran out of the room to call the doctor. Just then my mom, dad, sister Lana, and Bryson showed up. I started crying. I was so happy to see them. I was in so much pain. My mom came over and we just hugged and cried for a few minutes. My dad took Bryson out and my mom and sister stayed in the room to watch. The nurse came back and told me the baby was about to slide out so I needed to stop pushing. I told her I wasn't pushing. My body was doing it and I couldn't stop it. So, she had to push my legs together to hold him in until the doctor got there. It was pretty crazy. So, when the doctor came it went fast. I just pushed like 4 times to get the head out. It hurt so bad! My sister was filming it. She said she kept pausing it because she didn't want to record all my screaming. She said she felt so bad. My mom said it was great birth control for her (Lana)... which is partly why she let her be in the room. Ha ha. I only had to get one stitch so that was really cool. I felt really good after the baby was out. I wasn't exhausted at all. So, I got to enjoy watching everyone huddle around the baby and stuff. Right after he was born my dad came in with Bryson. I think it was good for Bryson to see the baby right after so he could see how it all worked. All the nurses kept saying Brodey was a big baby. I thought he looked tiny. He's still so tiny to me. I love it. His newborn diapers are so cute! I love that he can wear them. When I get him dressed I feel like I'm playing dress up with a doll. Well, here are some pictures from the whole experience.
This is me right as we were walking out the door. I didn't get too big. I was proud of myself.
We love Brodey and are so glad that he's finally joined our family. He's a happy baby that hardly ever cries. It's wonderful. We're having so much fun with him!
